On Monday morning July 13, 2020, Empire cast member Bryshere Y. Grey, 26, was arrested and charged with assaulting his wife and refusing to speak to police for hours, as the authorities in the phoenix suburb of Goodyear said.
In fact, the incident began Sunday evening, around 10:15 p.m., when Goodyear police responded to a 911 call outside a Circle K made by a “good Samaritan” helping another woman, alleging that “an adult female victim was assaulted at her Goodyear home by her husband, who she identified as Bryshere Gray, a cast member of the television series ‘Empire’,” police said in a statement.
Her injuries were not life-threatening and she was treated and she was released, police said, adding that detectives and a victims’ lawyer “continued to assist her after she was released from hospital”.When police arrived at their home, Gray refused to come out and speak to officers, the statement said.
‘Goodyear SWAT and Crisis Negotiations have been called in to assist,’ police said.
About nine hours later, he was “Gray released and taken into custody without incident” just after 7 a.m. Monday, arrested and taken to the Maricopa County Jail for domestic violence, police said.
According to prison records, Gray was arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct.It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.A representative for Gray did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Gray, who played Hakeem Lyon on the Chicago-based TV show, was arrested again in Chicago in 2019 after authorities said a temporary license plate didn’t match the 2014 Rolls Royce he was driving .He was arrested on a misdemeanor registration charge and a ticket.
