Obituary for Jeffery Lee Dunavin

In Loving Memory: Obituaries September 1, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (7)Jeffery Lee Dunavin, age 60, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, died Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at his residence.

He was born August 21st, 1964, in Redding, California, to the late Claude Oliver and Margaret Collins Dunavin. He was a retired pipe fitter for GM and was an avid UT baseball, football and basketball fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Cheek Dunavin, and brother, Wayne “Bub” Dunavin.

He is survived by one daughter, Haley Blaylock of White House, TN, one son, Christopher Dunavin of Spring Hill, TN, and one sister, Teri Baird of Springfield, TN.

In Loving Memory: Obituaries September 1, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (12)Sara Rhea Hargett, age 94 of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday, August 30, 2024 at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cross Plains with Dustin Wilson, Drew Wilson, Peyton Hix, Sam Wilson, Kevin White, and Tim Moulton serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 AM until the time of service.

Mrs. Sara was born July 30, 1930 in Nashville to the late W. Horace and Jeanette Mitchell Keith. She was a homemaker, a member of Martins Chapel Methodist Church and was formerly a longtime member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was also a graduate of the Springfield High School Class of 1948, a member of the FCE Homemakers Club, and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and attending Springfield High School and Austin Peay football games. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lewis Hargett.

In Loving Memory: Obituaries September 1, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (17)Edward Ray “Eddie” Cherry, age 67 of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Dale Swearingen officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of service.

Eddie was born September 24, 1956 in White House to the late Ramey and Ethel Robertson Cherry. He worked in home improvement doing painting, carpentry, and other jobs. He was a member of the Corvette Society and was a musician playing the drums and guitar. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was an avid mechanic, always working and tinkering with something.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Raye West Cherry. Mrs. Grundy was born October 8, 1931, in Fayette, PA, to the late BW and Evelyn Grimm. She worked many years as a medical assistant at UC Medical Center in San Francisco. Mrs. Grundy was part of the Jazz music scene back in the 60’s and 70’s with her first husband, Tom Reynolds. She loved cooking, caring for her family, and especially loved her children and grandchildren. Cecil Ralph, a cherished resident of Goodlettsville, TN, passed away peacefully on August 23,2024, at the age of 82. Born on November 3, 1941, in Goodlettsville, Cecil lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a strong work ethic.

For 22 years, Cecil devoted his professional life to Roadway Express, where he was known for his commitment and reliability before he chose to retire. His easy-going personality and willingness to help others endeared him to both colleagues and friends alike, earning him a reputation as a good man who would do anything for those he cared about.

Cecil had a variety of interests that brought him joy, especially spending time at Worshem Store with friends and engaging in farming.

Cecil leaves behind his beloved children, Steven Ralph, James Ralph, and Allen Ralph; his siblings, Lee Elbert, Kenneth Ralph, JoAnn Kizer, Linda Davis, and Jane Stults; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory forward.

He rejoins his parents, Elbert and Nora Lee Ralph; his beloved wife, Gloria Ralph; and his sister, Joyce Roberts, in eternal rest.

Friends and family were invited to gather and remember the wonderful life that Cecil led. His legacy of kindness and goodwill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 5pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier.

Visitation will be held at the Greenbrier Chapel on September 14th from 2pm until the hour of service at 5pm.

Mrs. Spalding was born September 14, 1960 in Nashville to the late Tony Aaron and Betty Leek Spalding. She worked as a waitress until her retirement and attended New Hope Church. Mrs. Spalding loved spending time with her grandchildren, she liked to sell merchandise at festivals, and loved bickering with her husband, “T.” Milliken.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Spalding is preceded in death by her brother, Dee Dee Webb and her granddaughter, Jenna Judkins.

Tristin Ronald Franklin, age 15 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at TriStar Ashland City Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6 o’clock pm, Thursday, September 5th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Pastor Randy Riggs officiating. Following the service, Tristin’s remains will be cremated.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 5th, beginning at 4:00PM until the hour of service at 6:00PM.

Tristin was born on September 6, 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was currently a sophom*ore at Sycamore High School, where he excelled as a member of the Track & Cross- Country Team: the sport that was his passion. Tristin also loved his dogs, “Gunner & Trooper”.

He is preceded in death by a grandfather, Carl Redman.

Survivors include his parents, Phil & Patty Franklin; sister, Carly White (fiancé, Eli Freeman); and grandparents, Ron Franklin and Maureen Redman.

Donnie was born on December 29, 1968, in Springfield, Tennessee, to the late Allen & Margie Brinlee Savley. He was a meat cutter at H.G. Hill who enjoyed fishing, guns, UT football and basketball, and sitting by the fireplace listening to music. He was a Christian.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Savley.

Obituary for Gary Ronald Mink

In Loving Memory: Obituaries September 1, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (47)Pastor Gary Ronald Mink, 82, of Goodlettsville went home to be with the Lord peacefully Monday, August 26, 2024 at Hendersonville Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born August 11, 1942 in Portland, TN, the third child to sharecroppers, Hurshell David and Maudie Leola Belcher Mink.

He had 3 siblings, David Mink, deceased, Dorothy Atteberry, deceased and Barbara (Jim) Searcy. Gary was a country boy at heart, who grew up on the farm and loved working with his hands. When he was 18, he married Helen Jane Lankford from Hartsville, TN and they were happily married for 61 years, until she passed in 2023. Gary was a smart businessman, an avid reader and he loved to work in his garden. He knew early in his life that he wanted to be a minister, because he loved the Word of God and he wanted to serve the Kingdom. Gary loved working with young people. He was a boy scout leader, a Sunday school teacher, a youth minister and a pastor for over 50 years. He will be deeply missed by his family, his church family and his many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Mink; brother, David Mink; sister Dorothy Atteberry. He is survived by his son, Gary Daniel (Janet) Mink, White House, TN; daughter, Mary Beth (Kevin) Gammons, Greenbrier, TN; sister, Barbara (Jim) Searcy, Moscow, TN; 3 grandchildren, Lindsay (Michael), Marshall Lauren Gammons and Caleb Mink; 3 great-grandchildren, Jax Marshall, Sawyer Marshall and Beau Marshall.

Mrs. Ellis was born July 4, 1932 in Santa Maria, TX to the late Wallace Harpster and Opal Ogelsby Harpster. She graduated from high school in Edinburgh, TX and received her nursing degree (Registered Nurse) from the Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago. Mrs. Ellis married Joseph Newlin Ellis on September 17, 1955 and they remained together for 65 years until his passing on April 22, 2021. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Ramert, and sister and brother-in-law, Jerry and Bill Neal.

In Loving Memory: Obituaries September 1, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (67)James R. (Jim) Vaden, age 83, passed away in Nashville, TN, on Saturday, August 24, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents James C. and Lourene Vaden; sister Joyce Ann Ray and his dachshund, Bosco. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Vaden; his sister Kathy (Ron) Cundall; three children, Jackie (Clay) Keltner, Lisa (Terry) Hudgins, Danny (Rebecca) Vaden; his grandson Chad Hudgins; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and his faithful dachshund, Cooper.

Jim was a celebrated athlete in high school and early college years, playing football, basketball, and baseball. A proud 1963 graduate of The University of Tennessee, Jim was a lifelong Volunteer Fan. He was a career State of Tennessee employee serving as Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance for the Tennessee Board of Regents and later Assistant to the Director with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

He was generous and protective, always putting his family and friends before himself and always sharing his knowledge, resources and opinions with friends, family and strangers alike. Jim always pushed himself and others to not only live up to their potential, but to surpass it as he always reminded us that there is nothing to be in life but the best.

Often you would find Jim enjoying the outdoors and the vast wildlife that surrounded his family home. He loved his koi pond and traveling with Nancy. He was especially fascinated by the culture and history of Japan and was always eager to share stories of their trips with family and friends back home in Tennessee.
